What is Earth Harmony?

Earth Harmony is a vision for the 21st century that could offer a new way for human beings to live comfortably and in harmony with the natural environment. It is an idea based on the fact that we will soon reach world-wide peak oil production, we are now in the Earth’s sixth mass extinction (caused by human population expansion and activities), and global warming, which is causing severe damage to human and natural environments due to more intense weather patterns.

Petroleum and all related products are growing more expensive with such regularity that we can barely keep up with the changes. This natural resource will only become more expensive as the supply is quickly depleted. Eventually it will no longer be economically feasible to pump oil out of the ground because it will take more energy to extract the oil than what could be gained from it. Geologists predict that this will occur sometime between 2036 and 2047, depending on technology, usage, and the possible discovery of new reservoirs.

Earth Harmony is both an overall philosophy toward life and it is also a model for an ecovillage that would allow people to live in harmony with the environment without the need for petroleum. This is a vision of not just one ecovillage, but of a world of ecovillages. The cities would still exist, but they would be modified in relatively simple ways in order to convert them away from petroleum dependency.
